Prayer Requests for this Week

June 26, 2010

First, let me thank all of my prayer partners who have read this blog and prayed for us.  Next, I need to apologize for not keeping this site up-to-date.  I am sorry for not making the time–please forgive me.  I need to walk in the pathway of your prayers.  Here are the requests that we printed for the handout Wednesday night:

1. Meeting Place for Hispanic Ministry:  We have found a place that would more than meet our needs for this ministry. Join me in praying for church leaders who are considering how God would have us move forward. I expect their report soon.

2.  Gary and Karolyn Chapman:  The Chapmans are in Europe/Asia ministering to Missionaries.  Join me in praying for them as they serve alongside field leaders who are from the Calvary family.

3.  For Such a Time As This: Pray for our Music Ministry as they prepare and present their presentation this Sunday, June 27th.

4.  VBS: Pray for the follow up to new families we have met this week.

5.  Vertical Generation: Pray for our students and the adult sponsors (over 175 people) who will soon travel to New York on a mission trip.  They will be presenting the love of Christ as they serve churches and communities July 3rd-10th.

Additional requests:

We have a Team of 12 people who are heading to Haiti this week to work with the Mission of Hope.

Also, we will soon have a team departing for Barbados to help upgrade the training facilities for Conexion 10/40.

Task Force and the SBC 2010

June 18, 2010

The SBC 2010 voted to affirm the recommendations from the Great Commission Task Force.  The vote appeared to be 3-to-1 “for” the recommendations.

Baptist Press articles report it this way:

It was an honor for me to serve with these folks:

Prayer Requests June 2, 2010

June 3, 2010

Pastor’s Prayer Corner*

1.  Thank God for His work in Moldova: We rejoice over the work of God in Moldova.  God blessed the Leadership Conference with His presence and a spirit of revival.  The church leaders were encouraged and thankful.  Pray for them as they begin to put into practice the things we taught last week.

2.  Vacation Bible School:  We continue to pray for VBS.  Pray for the teachers/leaders as they prepare.  Pray for families and children to invite their friends and neighbors who need to know Christ.

3. “Jim” in Northern Africa: KK and I have a friend named Jim who is experiencing health problems.  He has Multiple Sclerosis and has had to be hospitalized for a few days.  I told his wife that we would pray for the medication to work so they can continue to minister to an Unreached People Group.

4.  SBC and the GCR The Southern Baptist Convention will meet in Orlando June 15-16 (Pre-convention meetings June 13-14).  On June 15th the Great Commission Resurgence (GCR) Task Force will present a report to the convention.  We have worked on this report for an entire year.  Pray for unity and God’s direction as the report is presented.

5.  Summer Ministries:  During the next three months, our Calvary family will:  work in the community, be involved in special outreach ministries and go on mission trips.  Pray for God to work in our lives and the lives of the people we will touch.

* these weekly requests are printed in a handout available at the Information Center in Central Campus lobby

Don’t Be Discouraged (Dr. Chapman’s Challenge)

June 3, 2010

Last Sunday Dr. Chapman preached from Paul’s Prayer in Eph 3.13-19

He ended the message with this challenge:

Pray this prayer for 1 person each day for 7 days, starting today.

1.  That they may have inner strength and power to face every circumstance.

2.  That they will be rooted in the reality that God loves them in their present situation.

3.  That their life may be totally filled with God.

Read the text and insert the name of the person you are praying for… (Eph 3:13-19)

Reflections on Moldova

June 2, 2010

We arrived home Monday night and I spent Tuesday in meetings with our staff.  As I tried to report on the trip, these are the main things I kept saying…

The believers in Moldova are gracious and humble people.  Over and over again they said, “thank you for coming so far to visit our country” and “we have never had anything like this before.”  As I observed their hunger and desire to hear and welcome the Word of God, I thought of what Paul said about the Thessalonians and how they welcomed the Word  (I Thess. 2:13).

Oppression from the years of communist rule is still evident.  The dark clouds of hopelessness linger in the air competing with flickers of freedom– especially in the eyes of the young people and young adults.

And there are many young adults.  We were pleasantly surprised  by the large number of young pastors and church leaders who attended our conference.  And, Saturday night, as we stopped by a shopping center downtown, we were surrounded by thousands of young adults. All of this together moved us to pray for a movement of the Gospel in the next generation.

Finally, we experienced unity among the churches and believers.  The Leadership Team for our conference invited many different churches and denominations to attend.  It was truly a Great Commission conference…composed of Great Commission Christians.

We made a lot of new friends who have already written emails and become friends on Facebook.  We look forward to hearing about the work of God in Moldova for many years to come….
